This online tutorial is designed to provide a comprehensive, clinically grounded overview of urological complications associated with laparoscopic gynaecological and pelvic surgery, with a strong emphasis on prevention, early recognition, and safe management. It will cover relevant pelvic and retroperitoneal anatomy from a laparoscopic perspective, mechanisms and risk factors for injury to the ureters, bladder, and surrounding structures, and how these risks vary with procedure type, disease severity, and surgical complexity.


The tutorial will explore intraoperative strategies to minimise harm, including surgical planning, anatomical identification, energy use, and dissection techniques, as well as the recognition of subtle intraoperative signs of urological injury. It will also address postoperative presentations, diagnostic pathways, and timely intervention to reduce morbidity, alongside principles of multidisciplinary collaboration, documentation, consent, and medico-legal considerations.
